Welcome to the University of Wisconsin - Madison, the Badger Land !!!
      Congrats on your admission to the University of Wisconsin – Madison, one of the premier educational institutions in the United States of America. The University of Wisconsin (UW) – Madison is located at Madison, Wisconsin's vibrant capital city. The purpose of this document is to provide you with some basic information that would help smoothen your transition into graduate life.
      Built on an isthmus between lakes Monona and Mendota, Madison is renowned for its beautiful scenery. A total of five area lakes and over 200 parks provide an abundance of year-round outdoor activities, from hiking, biking, swimming and sailing along with cross-country skiing, snow sailing, and ice fishing. Wisconsin is known for its picturesque towns filled with natural beauty, outdoor recreation, stimulating cultural offerings, distinctive restaurants and shops, and an irreverent spirit of fun. It has been continuously rated as one of America's best and safest places to live and work many a times.
Now, you probably have admits from ten other univs and are wondering - Why the hell should I go to Madison ? Here is what we think are the top ten non-academic reasons to choose Madison for your Grad studies...
10. Admire the biggest state capitol building in the US !
9. Become a big football fan and enjoy football with one of the few, if not only, teams to have won the Rose bowl two years in succession!
8. Sit on the Memorial Union terrace on a warm summer evening with a cold beer from Der Rathskeller and enjoy the lake and surroundings!
7. Travel north in the Fall and admire the Fall Colors (amongst other colors!)
6. Madison was rated the number 1 city in the US to live in in a 1997 survey!
5. Enjoy Milk, Cheese and the world's best ice-cream from America's Dairyland !!! (Yummy)
4. Take an elective every semester...and soon become a master of racquet ball or ball room dance or something like that....
3. Eat from a selection of Thai, Japanese, etc. food at Library Mall
2. Try your hand at sailing, windsurfing at Hoofers on Lake Mendota! Hoofers is the biggest sailing club amongst the US universities. Take a few sailing courses and you will be ready to ride the waves :)
1. Madison is a beautiful city with 4 lakes surrounding it. Hardly any other city can boast of such surroundings. Enjoy a nice bike ride by the lake or just go for a jog or a long walk by the lake !
