IGSA Photography Workshop

When: Sunday, November 21, 2010. 10 am
Where: Meet at Engineering Hall, 1513 Engg. Dr., Madison. WI

Wondering what's the secret behind clicking photos like these? Do you think you aren't making the best out of your camera? No problem! IGSA brings you a three session Photography Workshop! Instructed by Abishek Muralimohan, the three sessions will cover:

Session 1 (10.30 am - 11.30 am)

  • Intro to Photography
  • Photography as Art
  • Photography as Journalism
  • Perspective
  • Color
  • Line
  • Space
  • Composition
  • Light (or lack thereof)
  • Reduction
  • Shooting in the wild
  • Shooting in studios
  • Making people model/pose
  • Types of photography
  • Why the camera doesn't matter!

Session 2: (11.30 am - 12.30pm)

  • The technique of photography
  • The human eye and the brain
  • Film
  • Digital
  • Shutter; ISO; Aperture; White balance; Exposure metering; Flash; Focus; Release modes
  • Lenses - focal lengths; zooms; primes; aperture; VR
  • SLRs: why do we need them?
  • Accessories: tripods, camera bags, etc.
  • Post processing: Noise, color, contrast, effects (vintage, tilt-shift, etc)
  • Beyond photography: videos

Session 3: Outdoor Photography (Post-Lunch)

  • Practical session around nearby places -- depending on weather conditions.

Each session will be priced at $8 for students and $12 for non-students. Hurry! Discounted prices for all three sessions if taken together! $20 for students and $30 for non-students.

To make the best out of this workshop, it is recommended that you bring your camera along.

IGSA Diwali Night 2010

When: Sunday, November 7th, 2010. 6 pm
Where: Union Theatre, Memorial Union. 600, Langdon St, Madison. WI

Diwali is the Indian Festival of Lights and is a celebration of the defeat of evil and the triumph of good. Indians throughout the world celebrate Diwali with great enthusiasm. Diwali is one of India's most important festivals and brings together all Indians, irrespective of religion.

Spending time with family and friends. Upholding traditions. Exchanging sweets. And, of course, fireworks! It is perhaps the most eagerly awaited festival for every Indian! IGSA's Diwali Night brings this festive air to Madison, uniting Indians in Madison and showcasing Diwali and Indian culture to the Madison community at large.

This year, we have a great show lined up showcasing the talents of UW students. Bollywood Dances, Classical Music, Hilarious Skits.. we have them all.. And more!! The show will be followed by a spectacular Fireworks show at the Alumni Pier on Union Terrace.

Camping Trip 2010

Where: Peninsula State Park, Fish Creek, WI.

Each year over one million people visit Peninsula State Park. Considered Wisconsin's most complete park, Peninsula offers 468 campsites, three group camps, a summer theater, an 18-hole golf course and beach, bike trails, a lighthouse and eight miles of Door County shoreline. The rollicking waves that skip towards Peninsula's sky high bluffs enhance already spectacular scenery.

Rafting Trip 2010

Where: Menominee River, WI.

This rafting trip is geared for first-timers, with the presence of an experienced guide on the raft. At the same time, those looking for an adrenalin rush should look no further than the mighty Menominee, with its thrilling Class IV rapids!! There will be 6-12 persons per raft. Wait until next Fall for another chance to experience the thrill!
