When: Sunday, August 24th, 2008
Where: Kosir's Rapid Rafts, Menominee River, Athelstane WI
Distance from Madison: Approximately 200 miles (~ 4 hours)
Estimated cost: $70 per head

The Menominee River is a large volume dam controlled river, with the dam located just above the raft put-in. Located just below the Little Quinnesec Dam, the put-in overlooks one of the largest flows in the Midwest which is shadowed under the massive 200 foot high cliffs on the Michigan side of the river. This impressive view continues for the first 1 1/2 miles of the trip where the river runs wide and slow, giving everyone a chance to enjoy the scenery and get comfortable with the raft and equipment. After this, one encounters Class II-III rapids, following which are a series of Class IV rapids that follow in quick succession! An exciting feature is the opportunity to raft the rapids a second time by trekking up a trail upstream!! Another attraction is that the guide offers a tour of the rapids before rafting them, so everyone knows what to expect! The trip lasts for approximately 4 hours.
This rafting trip is geared for first-timers, with the presence of an experienced guide on the raft. At the same time, those looking for an adrenalin rush should look no further than the mighty Menominee, with its thrilling Class IV rapids!! There will be 6-12 persons per raft.
Other details: The rafting begins at 10 AM, so we will aim to leave at 5 AM. We should be back in Madison by 6-7 PM. Regarding the cost of the trip, the per head cost can be minimized if more of you bring your cars (reduces the need for rental cars). Any balance money will be returned after the trip.
