Home> Fall Camping Trip 2007

In the Fall season, trees shed billions of tons of leaves, and the shedding of leaves is preceded by a spectacular color show. Formerly green leaves turn to brilliant shades of yellow, orange, and red.

Hello friends and patrons of IGSA! We are organizing a " Fall Colors" Camping Trip for having fun, appreciating and enjoying the awe inspiring colors put on by nature.

Where?

We will be going to the Peninsula State Park located in the Door County, WI. Door County is well-known for its beautiful Fall colors.

When?

October 6th and 7th 2007 (Saturday & Sunday)

See pictures of a previous year's IGSA Fall Camping Trip to the Door County.

There are a total of 35 openings and 16 people have already registered¿. Only 16 openings are left, so please enlist quickly. This is on a first-come-first-serve basis. After 35 openings are filled, a waiting list is going to be maintained and you will have to wait until someone drops out.

LAST DAY for REGISTERING for the camping trip is Sunday, September 30th 2007.

The actual cost of the trip is usually much less (around $35-$40) - for details on how to reduce the cost, see below

YOU CAN GIVE THE CHECKS TO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE:

Sunil Sunkara, Smita Agrawal, Siva Reddy Battula, Sanny Shah, Ankur Jain, Puneet Arora, Badri Narayan, Charanyan Varadan, Sathish Veeraraghavan, Shruti Goel

What are we going to do?

We will be leaving for camping on October 6th, Saturday morning. The journey will take approximately 5 hours. We are currently working on the fun activities that can be done out there. Possible activities include: Lots of hiking (we are mainly there to enjoy nature in its pure form), biking, lying around in the beaches, volleyball, frisbee, cricket, kabaddi, antakshari, and much more. If someone has any more fun ideas, let us know. We are also booking campsites close to the lake!

Transportation

We will be providing transportation for all people who are joining the camping trip. However, we highly encourage people with cars to bring their own cars so that the cost of trip can be reduced. Benefits for car owners can be found in the cost section. We are planning to rent cars for the weekend only if we have to.

Food

Hope everyone has enough food at home to have your breakfast on Saturday (October 6th) morning!!! We will stop for lunch at a pre-specified location (October 6th) on the way. We are planning to have a POTLUCK for dinner (October 6th). IGSA will provide for grilling (both veg and non-veg) for dinner. Last year we had a wonderful selection of food for the potluck. Food will be provided by IGSA for Sunday (October 7th) morning and afternoon. The food categories will be vegetarians, and non-vegetarians. The cost of food will be based on your category. People who wish to consume alcohol are welcome to bring their own for themselves and their friends.

Shelter

We have reserved a group camp site close to the lake for the 6th and 7th of October. Hence a maximum of 35 people are allowed. People are welcome to sleep in their cars if they are not comfortable of sleeping in tents. If students have tents, they are encouraged to bring them. They are also encouraged to borrow tents from friends, if possible. Benefits for people bringing their own tents can be found in the cost section.

Cost

The cost of the trip has been estimated to be about $50 per head (includes food, car rental, gas, tents and camping charges.). The components of this cost that we can try reducing are cost of car rental and gas estimated to be around $30 per head and tents that will cost about $5 per head.

Our primary aim is to make this trip a lot of fun and cheap. We are trying our best to keep the cost of the trip as low as possible.

How can you help us keep the costs low?

People with cars are highly encouraged to bring their own cars which will eliminate the cost of car rental. For example, the cost of the IGSA White Water Rafting Trip organized last summer reduced drastically from $50 to $30 per head due to the people who brought their own cars. If we get enough car owners volunteering to bring their cars, then IGSA will not be renting any cars. People and their immediate family who bring cars will not be sharing the cost of gas or car rental charges.

The same holds good for tent rental charges that are huge. So people are encouraged to bring their own tents if they have any or borrow tents from other friends, if possible. Students and their immediate family who get tents will not be charged any tent fee.

If we do have to rent cars and tents, the amount will be shared by the rest of us. We currently have a few students volunteering to bring their cars and we are on the lookout for some more. We hope that with your kind co-operation, we will be to bring the cost down. So, help us.
